Rules for the Game Master and Players

AMBIANCE

It is recommended that the place chosen for the game have at least two rooms that can be closed off from each other. The reason is that many actions must be carried out secretly--away from the prying eyes of other characters.
It is recommended to play music in the main playing room at a reasonably low level. Choose music that seems appropriate for the setting.

Decorations will also help the players feel more at ease when they show up to the game location in costume.
Finally, small hand-written signs on doors denoting locations will even further help people communicate as well as add more flavor to the game.

We played a game where people were supposed to be in a western town, so we labeled the rooms of our house with things like, The One-Eyed Saloon, Jake's House of Women, and Lotsa Money Bank. Very soon people were referring to the rooms as if they were real parts of a city. It was also easier to say, "Meet me in the bank at 10:00," than to say, "Meet me in the second bedroom." Obviously the latter is much more confusing, and time will be lost in discussing which bedroom is the second bedroom.
