The year is 602. The place is feudal Berkshire, Fingland. The current reigning King and Queen of Fingland are Margaret IV and Frederick XI. As with any medieval state, Fingland is at war with Franch. The Franch have been taunting the Finglish for many years now. The last straw was when a Franch messenger delivered a dirty handkerchief to the King and Queen of Fingland. A note was pinned to the handkerchief that said, "I blow my boogers at your ugly head" (said with an outrageous Franch accent of course). Out of fear of losing both the respect of the Uropean community and the loyalty of all their nobles, the King and Queen of Fingland declared war. They called upon their nobles to gather all men of war age (10 years and older) and send the soldiers to the royal palace in Blundon.

Times have been rough in the feudal state of Berkshire in the country of Fingland. A terrible summer has ruined many crops, and an awful winter is in the making. The serfs can't do anything to prepare for the harsh winter because all of the able-bodied men have been summoned to war. A sense of despair hangs in the air. The irony of the entire situation is that today is Thanks Day. Thanks Day is supposed to be a festival celebrating the fall harvest when revelers are cheery and spread good tidings. Many people have filtered into the marketplace of Berkshire in hopes of a good time. A good time they will have because there is an air of mischief about the marketplace today. Noble men and ladies mingle with exotic travelers. There are even tales of dragons about.
